Bills Introduced – 04-14-16

Yesterday with both the House and Senate in Washington there were 35 bills introduced. Of those, only one may be of specific interest to readers of this blog:

HR 4937 To amend title 49, United States Code, to reauthorize pipeline safety programs and enhance pipeline safety, and for other purposes. Rep. Denham, Jeff [R-CA-10]

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee has been working on this bill for quite some time now and it will be interesting to see if they finally came up with a bipartisan bill. The Senate has already adopted their PHMSA authorization bill (S 2276, the SAFE PIPES Act). The introduction of this bill would seem to indicate that the House will not take up the Senate bill, so we should expect to see some significant differences between the two bills.

BTW: The first FY 2017 spending bill was introduced yesterday in the Senate, S 2804, the Energy and Water Development bill. It looks like the Senate will begin consideration of that bill as HR 2028, which was the FY 2016 spending bill on the same topic. This was done because spending bills must originate in the House.
